Lavirotte Building

The Lavirotte Building, at twenty-nine Avenue Rapp, is defined by a facade so densely crowded with sculpture and glazed ceramic tile that almost no bare stone remains visible. Designed by architect Jules Lavirotte and completed between eighteen ninety-nine and nineteen oh-one, it stands as one of the most prominent survivors of the Art Nouveau movement in Paris. The exterior surfaces blend organic, flowing forms with animal motifs and curling wrought-iron railings, an aesthetic that secured it the city’s award for the most original new facade in nineteen oh-one.
