Luxembourg Palace

The Luxembourg Palace is defined by its heavy, rusticated stonework and its distinctive Florentine-inspired design, a deliberate nod by Marie de Medici to the Palazzo Pitti of her childhood. Completed in sixteen forty-five, the structure was commissioned by the widowed Queen Regent to serve as her royal residence. It remains one of the most prominent examples of how a private estate can evolve through the centuries, transitioning from a queen’s home to a revolutionary prison, and finally into the seat of the French Senate.
