Bataclan (theatre)

The Bataclan, located at fifty Boulevard Voltaire, is distinguished by its colorful façade, a vibrant echo of the Chinoiserie style in which it was first designed by architect Charles Duval in eighteen sixty-four. Originally opened in eighteen sixty-five as the Grand Café Chinois, it was named after a one-act operetta by Jacques Offenbach. While the theater once featured a pagoda roof, that structure was removed during later renovations, though the building retains its status as a historic venue that has cycled through lives as a dance hall, a cinema, and a modern concert stage.
