Galerie Vivienne

The Galerie Vivienne is defined by its long, L-shaped corridor covered by a high glass roof, which allows soft daylight to fall onto complex geometric floor mosaics. Built in eighteen twenty-three and inaugurated in eighteen twenty-six, this passage was designed by architect François-Jacques Delannoy in a neoclassical Pompeian style. It features stucco reliefs, painted panels, and gilded ironwork that reflect its original intent to provide an elegant, sheltered shopping environment for nineteenth-century Parisians moving between the Palais-Royal and the Bourse.
