Hôpital Saint-Louis

Hôpital Saint-Louis is defined by its distinct pattern of brick and stone, a classic architectural style shared with the Place des Vosges. Founded by King Henry the Fourth, the hospital was built between sixteen oh seven and sixteen twelve to relieve the overwhelmed Hôtel-Dieu during a devastating plague epidemic. To protect the rest of the city, the King ordered the facility constructed outside the walls, creating a self-contained complex designed to isolate those suffering from contagious disease.
