Saint-Martin-des-Champs Priory

The Saint-Martin-des-Champs Priory is recognizable by its medieval tower and a mix of Romanesque and Gothic architecture that stands in the middle of a city block. Originally built in the eleventh century on the site of a Merovingian chapel, the complex was once surrounded by fields, which earned it the name "in the fields." It became one of the most powerful monastic houses in the region, second only to the Royal Abbey of Saint-Denis.
