The Théâtre de la Porte Saint-Martin is recognizable by the figures on its facade depicting Tragedy, Drama, and Comedy, sculpted by Jacques-Hyacinthe Chevalier. This theater on Boulevard Saint-Martin first opened in seventeen eighty-one after the architect Nicolas Lenoir finished the structure in just two months. It was commissioned by Marie-Antoinette to serve as a temporary home for the Paris Opéra following a fire at the Palais-Royal.
