Medici column

The Medici Column rises thirty-one meters into the air, a slender, fluted stone pillar standing solitary against the walls of the Bourse de Commerce. It is the only surviving fragment of the Hôtel de la Reine, a royal palace commissioned by Catherine de Medici in the sixteenth century. Architect Jean Bullant completed the structure around fifteen seventy-five, incorporating a spiral staircase of one hundred and forty-seven steps inside that led to a platform at the top.
