Tour Saint-Jacques

The Tour Saint-Jacques is a fifty-two-meter tall bell tower in the fourth arrondissement, recognizable by its ornate Flamboyant Gothic style and the statue of Saint James the Greater crowning its summit. It is the sole survivor of the Church of Saint-Jacques-de-la-Boucherie, a sanctuary built between fifteen oh nine and fifteen twenty-three by the wealthy wholesale butchers of the nearby Les Halles market. During the French Revolution in seventeen ninety-seven, the church was demolished and its stone sold off like a quarry, leaving only this detached bell tower standing.
