The Tour Jean-sans-Peur rises as an isolated grey stone tower, standing apart from the surrounding buildings in the second arrondissement. This structure is the last remaining vestige of the Hôtel de Bourgogne, the vast medieval residence once occupied by the Dukes of Burgundy. Completed between fourteen oh nine and fourteen eleven, the tower was commissioned by Jean the Fearless, or Jean sans Peur, to serve as both a grand staircase and a fortified retreat during the height of the Armagnac-Burgundian Civil War.
