The Friche la Belle de Mai is a massive, sprawling industrial complex defined by its expansive eight-thousand-square-meter roof terrace. Located in the third arrondissement of Marseille, this site once functioned as one of the most productive tobacco factories in France. Beginning in eighteen sixty-eight, workers here manufactured millions of cigarettes, including the iconic Gauloises and Gitanes brands, until the factory closed its doors in nineteen ninety.
