Summer Palace of Maharaja Ranjit Singh

historic

The Summer Palace of Maharaja Ranjit Singh is a two-story building with a basement, positioned at the center of a sprawling garden complex in Amritsar. Construction began in eighteen nineteen on the site of a demolished mud fort, with the entire palace finished in eighteen thirty-one. Ranjit Singh, the founder of the Sikh Empire, commissioned the residence as a summer retreat and named the surrounding grounds Ram Bagh to honor the fourth Sikh Guru. The design was inspired by the Shalimar Gardens of Lahore, featuring sandstone pathways and fountains.
