The Howrah Bridge is a massive steel cantilever structure spanning the Hooghly River, defined by a framework held together entirely by rivets rather than nuts and bolts. Officially named Rabindra Setu in nineteen sixty-five to honor the poet Rabindranath Tagore, it remains one of the busiest bridges of its type in the world, accommodating more than one hundred thousand vehicles and one hundred fifty thousand pedestrians each day.
