The General Post Office in Kolkata is marked by a massive, high-domed roof that rises over two hundred and twenty feet above the city, supported by twenty-eight towering Ionic-Corinthian pillars. Designed by British architect Walter B. Grenville and completed in eighteen sixty-eight, the building functions as the central postal hub of West Bengal. It is a Neoclassical structure located at the edge of the Dalhousie Square area, and its white dome is easily distinguished from the surrounding business district.
