St. John's Church

St. John's Church is identified by a one hundred seventy-four-foot-tall stone spire and a pale yellow exterior featuring white columns. Consecrated on June twenty-fourth, seventeen eighty-seven, it was among the first major public buildings erected by the East India Company after the city became the capital of British India. Lieutenant James Agg of the Bengal Engineers designed the structure, modeling it after London's St. Martin-in-the-Fields.
