Lok Bhavan is a grand, three-story neoclassical mansion in central Kolkata, easily identified by its massive dome and the sweeping, curved corridors that connect its detached wings. Completed in eighteen oh three to replace a rented residence called Buckingham House, the building was originally known as Government House. Its architect, Captain Charles Wyatt, modeled the structure after Kedleston Hall in Derbyshire, England, ensuring the residence reflected the status of the Governor-General of Fort William.
