Hakone Shrine features a vivid scarlet gate, or torii, that stands directly in the waters of Lake Ashi. This structure, often called the Torii of Peace, marks the entrance to the shrine from the lake and acts as a landmark for the region. The shrine dates back to seven hundred fifty-seven, when the monk Mangan founded it following a divine revelation.
