Kumataka Shrine is distinguished by the presence of a quiet, reflective body of water known as Kodama Pond, or Echo Pond, which sits directly in front of the shrine building. Located deep within the forested grounds of Fushimi Inari Taisha, the shrine is a small, tucked-away site found along the mountain trail beyond the famous tunnels of vermilion gates. Its name is linked to ancient traditions suggesting that bears and hawks once inhabited this mountainside.
