The most striking feature of Sanjūsangendō is the sheer length of its main hall. Measuring one hundred and twenty meters from end to end, this wooden structure is the longest of its kind in Japan. Its name, Sanjūsangendō, literally translates to "hall with thirty-three spaces between the columns," a reference to the architectural intervals that define the building's facade. This number also holds religious significance, representing the thirty-three manifestations of the bodhisattva Kannon.
