The Pinang Peranakan Mansion is a striking, mint-green building on Church Street that captures the lifestyle of the nineteenth-century Peranakan elite. Known originally as Hai Kee Chan, or the Sea Remembrance Hall, it was built in the eighteen nineties by Chung Keng Quee. Chung, a wealthy tin miner and Hakka Chinese migrant who became the Kapitan Cina of Perak, commissioned this home to serve as both his residence and his office.
