Plaza de Armas

The Plaza de Armas is defined by a central wrought-iron bandstand painted dark green, which sits beneath the open sky in the heart of Guadalajara’s historic center. This Art Nouveau structure was imported from the Val d'Osne foundry in France and installed in nineteen ten to commemorate the centenary of Mexican independence. Its eight support pillars are sculpted into the shapes of women holding musical instruments, a detail that drew criticism from some conservative citizens at the time of its arrival due to their perceived sensuality near the Cathedral.
