Plaza de la Conchita

Plaza de la Conchita is defined by the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, a small, venerable religious building that anchors the center of the square. Built in the sixteenth century on land that once hosted a pre-Hispanic ceremonial center, the chapel is widely recognized as one of the oldest Christian church sites in the Americas. The plaza itself, paved in volcanic stone, occupies what served as the original atrium of this church.
