Gunanmen, or the Ancient South Gate, sits in the Xiufeng District as a remnant of the historic fortress that once protected Guilin. Its foundation dates back to the Tang Dynasty, established when the city functioned as a vital military garrison in southern China. While much of the original city wall sustained damage during the twentieth century, the gate remains to mark the footprint of the ancient city.
