Guilin Lijiang Art Academy

The Lijiang School of Painting took its name from the river that flows through this city, a landscape defined by the distinct karst mountains that rise abruptly from the earth. While the term refers primarily to a collective of artists established in June two thousand four, their work is rooted in a tradition of regional landscape art that sought to build a self-identity for Guangxi. These artists focus on the unique geography of their home, documenting the green hills and the waters that have long been the subjects of local creative practice.
