Guihu Lake, or Osmanthus Lake, stretches through the Xiufeng District as a narrow, winding body of water measuring over one thousand seven hundred meters from north to south. It is distinguished from the other urban lakes in Guilin by its specific role as a segment of the ancient city moat, a waterway first established during the Song Dynasty. In the year eleven oh six, a regional official named Wang Zudao commissioned the excavation of the Chaozong Canal to connect several mountain springs to the city moat, ensuring the water level remained consistent for the city’s defenses.
