Ye Shouhe is a long-standing fixture on Guanqian Street, recognizable by its heritage as a traditional Suzhou tea, snack, and candy shop. Established in the twelfth year of the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty—eighteen eighty-six—the store was founded by Ye Hongnian, a native of Cixi who sought to establish a business rooted in mutual respect with his customers. The name itself reflects this intent, as the founder famously decided that after experiencing difficult treatment himself, he would ensure every patron who visited his shop was received with harmony.
