At-Turaif is defined by its massive walls of earthen mud-brick, which rise from the western bank of the Wadi Hanifa oasis. This sprawling, fortified district in Ad Diriyah contains the ruins of palaces, mosques, and administrative buildings that once served as the seat of power for the First Saudi State. Founded in the fifteenth century, the site became the ancestral home of the Al Saud family and the political capital of the nation starting in seventeen twenty-seven.
