Kadıköy Balık Pazarı

The Kadıköy Balık Pazarı, or Kadıköy Fish Market, is recognizable by the intense, rhythmic shouting of fishmongers calling out their daily catch from behind mounds of shaved ice. Located in the heart of Kadıköy on the Asian side of Istanbul, this sprawling network of narrow, interconnected streets functions as an immense, open-air pantry for the city. While the market centers on fresh seafood hauled from the Black Sea, the Marmara, and the Mediterranean, the surrounding alleys contain a dense concentration of specialty shops selling pickles, cheeses, spices, and olives.
