The Covent Garden Market building is defined by its neoclassical design and a series of wrought-iron arches that support a glass roof. You can identify the structure by its distinctive stone columns and the open-air piazza that surrounds it. This site was once the kitchen garden for the monks of Westminster Abbey, which is how it earned its name. By the mid-seventeenth century, the area hosted a collection of informal produce stalls that grew into the city’s most important wholesale market for fruit, vegetables, and flowers.
