Thirty-one Tottenham Court Road is the site of the legendary UFO Club, which operated in the basement of this building beginning on December twenty-third, nineteen sixty-six. Back then, the subterranean space was known as the Blarney Club, an Irish dance hall tucked beneath the Berkeley Cinema. Founders John Hopkins and Joe Boyd rented the room for fifteen pounds every Friday night to host a counter-culture gathering for the city’s psychedelic scene.
