Candlestick Point State Recreation Area

Candlestick Point State Recreation Area sits on a stretch of shoreline in the Bayview neighborhood, defined by its flat, expansive landscape of reclaimed landfill that extends into the San Francisco Bay. This area holds a history shaped entirely by local residents. Following World War Two, the land was intended for a shipyard, but after the project was abandoned, the shoreline became a dumping ground for garbage and debris.
