Point Castillo is defined by the end of the harbor breakwater, where a rocky jetty extends into the ocean. It takes its name from a Spanish fortification that once stood on the nearby bluffs, overlooking the water to protect the Santa Barbara Presidio. The site was once anchored by a distinct, prominent rock formation known as Castle Rock.
