Manual High School sits on East Twenty-eighth Avenue, distinguished by its long history as one of Denver’s earliest public schools. Founded in eighteen ninety-two as Manual Training High School, it earned a reputation for being among the first in the city to open its doors to girls and African American students. While the original structure was destroyed by a fire in nineteen fifty-three, the current building has occupied its site in the Whittier neighborhood since nineteen fifty-four.
