The Halekulani Hotel is recognized by a series of low-rise, interconnected buildings painted a signature shade of white that stands out against the blue of the Pacific. Its name, which translates to "House Befitting Heaven," originates from a two-story home built on this site by businessman Robert Lewers in eighteen eighty-three. Lewers frequently welcomed local fishermen to pull their canoes onto the beach to rest under the shade of hau trees, and these visitors bestowed the name upon the location.
