Boston Women's Memorial

The Boston Women's Memorial is a grouping of three bronze and granite sculptures located on the Commonwealth Avenue Mall. Unlike many traditional monuments that elevate historical figures on high stone bases, artist Meredith Bergmann created these statues at ground level. Abigail Adams, Lucy Stone, and Phillis Wheatley are depicted actively using their pedestals as working surfaces, where they sit or lean while writing and thinking.
