Museum of African American History

The Museum of African American History on Beacon Hill is distinguished by a red brick exterior featuring three tall, arched windows positioned above two black doors. This site encompasses the African Meeting House, constructed in eighteen oh six, which stands as the oldest existing Black church building in the United States. The building served as the spiritual and political heart of Boston’s free Black community, housing a church, a school, and a space for abolitionist organizing.
