Boston's Old City Hall

Old City Hall on School Street is defined by its ornate granite exterior, heavy columns, and towering mansard roof, all characteristic of the French Second Empire style. Completed in eighteen sixty-five, the building served as the seat of Boston's municipal government for over a century. Thirty-eight mayors conducted the business of the city here, overseeing the local politics that shaped Boston’s development through the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
