Victoria Falls Bridge

landmark

The Victoria Falls Bridge is a parabolic steel arch that spans the deep Zambezi River gorge, connecting the nations of Zimbabwe and Zambia. Completed in nineteen oh five, the bridge stands one hundred twenty-eight meters above the river. It was built using a cantilever method that eliminated the need for scaffolding, a necessity given the impossible depth of the gorge below. The structure was prefabricated in England by the Cleveland Bridge and Engineering Company, shipped to the port of Beira in Mozambique, and then transported by rail to be assembled on-site.
