Devil's Cataract is the westernmost section of Victoria Falls and sits at the lowest point along the entire basalt lip of the waterfall. This segment is separated from the main cascade by a rocky outcrop known as Cataract Island, or Boaruka Island, a Tonga word meaning divider of waters. The water here plunges about sixty meters into a narrow gorge, creating a distinctive, turbulent flow that is often stronger than other sections during the dry season.
