Meestraat

other

Meestraat is defined by the Meebrug, a stone bridge from the fifteenth century that spans the Groenerei canal and divides the street into two segments. Running between the Hoogstraat and the Braambergstraat, the name of the street traces back to the plant known as mee, or madder. The roots of this plant provided a red dye essential for the medieval cloth industry that once brought immense wealth to Bruges.
