The Vancouver Aquarium is identifiable by the large bronze sculpture titled Chief of the Undersea World, designed by Bill Reid, which stands in front of the entrance. Located in the heart of Stanley Park, it holds the title of Canada’s first public aquarium. It was established by a group of professors from the University of British Columbia in nineteen fifty, and it officially opened its doors on June fifteenth, nineteen fifty-six. Federal Minister of Fisheries James Sinclair cut the ribbon at that ceremony, joined by his daughter, Margaret, who would later become the wife of a Canadian Prime Minister.
