Totem Poles

The totem poles at Brockton Point in Stanley Park are a collection of nine towering red cedar carvings set against a wooded backdrop. Since the nineteen twenties, the Vancouver Park Board has assembled these monuments by acquiring them from Indigenous communities across British Columbia, including the Haida Gwaii and Alert Bay. While the park itself sits on the ancestral territory of the Coast Salish people, totem poles were not traditionally part of their culture; rather, these works represent diverse nations from the province's north and central coast.
