Nine O'Clock Gun

The Nine O'Clock Gun is a twelve-pound naval cannon cast in eighteen sixteen that sits within a stone and metal enclosure along the Stanley Park seawall. Originally sent to Canada as a gift from the British government, the muzzle-loader arrived in Vancouver in eighteen ninety-four. For many years, the cannon served a practical purpose, firing a daily blast to help salmon fishermen track the time and to allow ship captains in the harbor to synchronize their chronometers.
