Waterfront Station is defined by a long, symmetrical red-brick façade fronted by a grand row of smooth, white Ionic columns. Opened in nineteen fourteen, the building was constructed by the Canadian Pacific Railway to serve as the western terminus for transcontinental passenger trains arriving from Montreal and Toronto. Architects from the Montreal firm Barott, Blackader and Webster designed the structure in a neoclassical style, creating an ornate gateway intended to provide a lasting first impression for travelers reaching the end of their journey across Canada.
