Vancouver Block

The Vancouver Block at seven thirty-six Granville Street stands fifteen storeys tall, distinguished by the massive, four-faced clock tower perched at its summit. Clad in cream-colored terra cotta, the building features a heavy cornice supported by six caryatids, stone figures sculpted into the form of women. Completed in nineteen twelve, the structure was commissioned by meatpacking magnate Dominic Burns. It sits on the highest point of land in downtown Vancouver, a location Burns selected to cement the intersection of Georgia and Granville as the city’s commercial core.
