Ontario Place is defined by the Cinesphere, a massive, spherical triodetic dome that sits prominently on the waterfront. When it opened in nineteen seventy-one, this structure housed the world's first permanent IMAX theatre. Designed by architect Eberhard Zeidler, the entire complex was built on three man-made islands created by sinking old lake freighters and adding landfill into Lake Ontario.
