Ireland Park

Ireland Park sits on the city waterfront at the foot of Bathurst Street, defined by its adjacency to the towering concrete Canada Malting silos. Its most distinct feature is a collection of five bronze statues created by the Irish sculptor Rowan Gillespie. These figures depict emaciated and exhausted migrants, one with arms raised toward the sky and another showing a pregnant woman clutching her stomach. The sculptures are a companion to a group of seven similar figures in Dublin that represent departure; these five represent arrival, symbolizing the loss of life during the long voyage across the Atlantic.
