Graffiti Alley, officially known as Rush Lane, runs for about one kilometer through the heart of the Fashion District. It is defined by the dense, ever-changing layers of spray paint that coat the back walls, garage doors, and fences of the buildings lining this three-block stretch. While today the site draws tourists and photographers from around the world, it originated in the nineteen seventies and eighties as a hub for unsanctioned tagging and illicit street art.
