CN Tower

landmark

The CN Tower defines the Toronto skyline with its tapered concrete shaft and distinct hexagonal core that rises one thousand eight hundred fifteen feet and five inches into the air. While it is now a globally recognized landmark, the tower began as a practical solution to a modern problem. During the nineteen sixties, a boom in skyscraper construction caused signals from existing radio and television transmitters to bounce off new buildings, creating poor reception for residents across the city. The Canadian National Railway developed the tower to provide a high-altitude transmission hub, completing the structure in nineteen seventy-six.
