Toronto's First Post Office

Toronto's First Post Office stands as a narrow, three-story brick building on Adelaide Street East, marked by its domestic appearance and symmetrical facade. Built in eighteen thirty-three, it was commissioned by the town’s postmaster, James Scott Howard, at a time when postal services were often managed from an official's own home. Howard lived on one side of the building while handling mail on the other, creating a central hub for a growing community that relied on letters to stay connected to the world beyond its borders.
